The Every Mother Project The Every Mother Project was created by four colleagues who each work with women and families during pregnancy and postpartum. Maria Dolorico, Cate Johannessen, Laurie Ganberg, and I have worked with countless women who struggle with emotional complications during pregnancy and early parenthood and have helped them navigate barriers to receiving care and support. Recognizing the need for systemic change, we decided to take action.
Our mission and work
The Every Mother Project provides training & support to professionals in order to reduce barriers that women with perinatal emotional complications face when accessing care. We believe that every mother has the right to comprehensive support services during pregnancy and postpartum. We work to make this right a reality for every mother.
We provide resources, information, and training for women's health providers to build and ensure their knowledge, compassion, and confidence when discussing emotional complications, like depression and anxiety, in the perinatal period.
Perinatal Toolkit
Are you a birth or postpartum doula, a lactation professional, a direct entry midwife, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, or a pre/postnatal fitness instructor? Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 women will experience emotional complications during pregnancy and/or the first year postpartum?
Because of your profession and the relationship you have with a client, you may be the first person to notice that she needs help. In fact, because of your profession and your relationship, she may speak to you in a way that she would not speak to a medical or mental health care provider, and you may see a slice of her life that a medical or mental health provider never would.
If you work with pregnant women or new mothers and are interested in increasing your knowledge about emotional complications, how to talk with families about them, and how to best support these women, please check out our free Perinatal Toolkit or contact usfor further training. The Every Mother Project can tailor a training for you and your colleagues/staff, or provide individualized consultations.
You don’t have to be a mental health provider to discuss emotional complications with your clients; you may just need support and resources. The Every Mother Project's Perinatal Toolkit can give you the guidance and information you need, and we're available to provide additional support as necessary.
