Group support is a wonderful option for folks in the perinatal period. I facilitate a perinatal support group for folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color. The group is offered through And Still We Rise and runs for 6-week sessions; the next session is beginning on February 27, 2023.
I also co-facilitate Postpartum Support International's free online Perinatal Support for South Asian Moms. The group meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:30 EST and is a wonderful way for Desi moms to connect and discuss perinatal mental health and the transition to parenthood in a safe and culturally sensitive environment. “Smart, compassionate, witty and easy to talk to, Divya was a lifesaver as a first time mom. I attended multiple of her new mama groups and it's a testament to her that I remain close friends with many of the new moms I met there - she facilitated meaningful discussions, restored our confidence in ourselves, and empathized in difficult moments. There are only a few things I miss from those wild west newborn days, and Divya's groups are one of them.” “I met Divya at a new parent support group, where she was the facilitator. She encouraged us to tune out the noise and listen to our intuition. She was one of those wise parents who went before us, like a big sister who you felt comfortable asking questions. As a role model that I respect, she is one of those people who I think about when I come to a difficult part of my parenting journey. I've often thought: wwdd (what would Divya do)? |
